Windows XP took 4 hrs to install

i am installing windows xp pro on a fresh format. when i installed it didnt seem to take any longer than usual to format but it took 4 hrs to install windows. no that windows is installed it takes about 10 min after the black xp screen and my system is ridiculously slow.

the copy of windows is burned but ive used tons of times. i just used it 3 days ago for a reformat. the cd is clean as awhistle and scratch-free. i only have 1 hd 1 cd 1 stick of ram and my cpu/hs fan. i used ntfs quick last time this time ill let it go the long way. i tried wiping and restarting a few times yesterday with the same result.
