Ive use Win XP for about 2 weeks now after upgrading from Win 98. Unlike many others here it seems, Im not terribly disappointed with this OS at all. I fully expected there to be compatibility problems with my old win 98 software since XP is based on an entirely different kernel from the Win 9x OS and also because it is just a very new OS so far. Like it or not we are still in the testing phase of Win XP and we are the testers. The compatibility problems I have are not major issues, just annoyences that I will eventually solve when I have the time. The biggest one was the incompatibility of Aureal Vortex 2 with XP resulting in no audio. I found a fix on the internet and it is now solved. I am very impressed with XP's stability. Apps within XP will crash from time to time, but my XP OS has not crashed once. All in all, Im very pleased with my upgrade and certainly do not regret it. Id like to see more people post onto this forum that have positive experiences from XP, not just those with unrealistic expectations and the whiners. PS...I dont work for MS :)

I have same experience with XP as Terry dose. At the first, I had a problem with my scanner connected with printer. XP would not support the old driver. Took me about a week to find right one and since then I had no problem, no crash etc.Is runing on my P3-450, voodoo3/2000, 512MB SDRAM w/o any problems.I like that... and about time we have good OS.

Wanna know how to stop those annoying explorer crashes? Use litestep ^_^. I know a shell replacement probably isn't the solution you're looking for, but I've been running XP with Litestep and my system is rock solid. It hasn't forzen once since I installed it.

I hear what your saying I myself am running XP and I can say I realy like it (honest). I've been a PC repair engineer for over 12 years and this is their best OS yet. After saying that though I can see where the others are coming from. I've installed XP on 10 machines this week and on all machines I've had to search for all kind of drivers and hardware problem solutions. This is all well and good when you are sure of what you are doing but when joe public has spent good money on a new OS and things go wrong they feel hard done by.
I have a microsoft force feedback wheel £130 when new. Micrsoft havent any XP drivers for their own hardware that work properly. My advice to anyone with XP and is having problems is keep at it, keep looking for those drivers or solutions as they will arrive sooner or later. XP is worth the time.

I think Xp is the best thing since slice bread came along, granted I was not around then but Xp does rock. I have yet to have even a App crash on me. I've created a few problems myself but that is because I like to create problems and then figure out how to reslove them. Certain people should not run Xp, it is not for everyone and will not resolve everyone's issues and problems. It does like memory, which BTW has taken an upswing in price but a huge one. I also do not use any 3rd party programs to tweak Xp, I either do it via the registry or threw the other advance options that Xp supplies on it's own. They are there, most people just don't know about them. I love this OS and will continue to love it, learn it and be happy with it.

I got XP preinstalled on my computer I bought on the 26th of Sept.. Since then, it's only crashed once, and it reloaded the files which had crashed, which was nifty. I ended up restarting anyway, but it was nice to know I didn't lose my information.

Win XP has far too much junk in it. It is a total space and resource hog. An out of the box Linux system runs on half the computer twice as fast, is for free, does not crash, and comes with tons of applications right from scratch.
Who on earth wants to pay big bucks for XP when half of the Windows software out there doesn't even work with it.
My experiences with XP are a total nightmare.

I have been using XP for about 2 weeks now and think it's faster and more stable than 98 or ME. I kind of miss being able to adjust some settings, like the network stuff, and am learning about it as I go along. What happened to the part in system information where you could go and check or uncheck what you wanted on your startup? It's gone now!

There is nothing better than listing to some Missy Elliot, Mary J. Blige or City High while posting a message and reading others. Nothing like getting your grove on and then comes the Linux guy, you have to love the Linux guy. They hate Xp so much they have to talk bad about it, I love it. I don't hate linux but I dont' complain either about its drawbacks, it's lack of driver support, application support. The fact that the avg. Joe can not install it and get a damn think working in it. Yes, this can be applied to Xp as well. That is life, humans write code, humans are not perfect, that is life. Break me off, show me what you got...Opps, sorry, got music in my ears. If linux is so freaking great why isn't everyone running it? Linux is not ready for mainstream, it is a great OS, don't get me wrong but you better know your way around a computer before you attempt to install it. I work wiht a guy who has an IQ that can get him into MENSA with ease and he is not one of these smart people that lack common sense, well at times he does cause he is young but he knows his stuff and a linux install screwed his system so bad he had to FDISK and reinstall his primary OS, my point. Linux is not perfect and if you say it is I got a bridge I want to sell you and some ocean front property. Get real people, Xp is not perfect, I'm not claming it to be but linux is far from perfect. I've used it, to bad my ex-wife has my linux box. Oh, well so is life and life is good.

Sure it's a resource hog and Linux runs better, like my SuSE box, but in order to have a well rounded knowledge of what's out there, you need to run them yourselves.

BTW, can someone read my post on the ICS

I could really some help on it.

Congratulations to all of you XP lovers.
I still have problems with my Agfa SnapScan 1212p scanner which does not run under Windows XP. Agfa will not develope new drivers for this scanner model.
SO ... let me enjoy XP too and somebody help me in finding compatible drivers for my scanner.

Honestly, I think we humans moan too much all the time.
People usually say that an OS is crap because they are having problems with it. It is not Microsoft's fault. The problem is our hardware. MS does a good job to support thousands of different hardware. I have been running XP for a few months now as a BETA tester and now from the shop and in all that time it did not crash once!
Whereas WinME crashed often. Games are the main culprit for crashes due to badly written code by the software developers and not Microsoft.
WinXP is by far the best Windows and IT IS stable as it gets.
The secret is to always buy popular hardware because the drivers for popular hardware is always been updated.
Hope you enjoy your new OS.

Just like with any new Windows system, we moan and complain that things are just not right. But with all the other systems, we worked it out. We researched, we found the tricks, we played and got the OS to work just the way we want it. For us computer geeks that is half the fun. Go with it, XP is great and I love it. What a challenge Gates has given us. Make XP yours, and let us know how your doing it!! You can see some of the tricks I have found all through these forums. It is taking time, but pretty soon my OS will be mine and tweaked the way I want it and reading all this information is part of the process. I had probs. with printers, scanners, software and kept at it and researched and everything and I mean everything is working great. I discovered how to get rid of a lot of the junk you don't need and turn off programs that are uneccesary. Run the windows update feature. One thig about Microsoft is they are always working to make it run and make it better, if there is a patch that is needed they will find it. I started with Win 95 and through diligence, patience and research have gotten all my systems to work exactly like I need and want them to. Don't like XP, go back to your old boring system and miss all the fun!!

This will make you laugh. I went out and pirated XP for a test run on it. I never buy straight away. It worked first time with everything and was fantastic. I went out and bought the exact same copy was what I thought. Installed it on a formatted HD just incase there was a difference and it crashed left right and center and did not support some of my hardware? DUH!! So even thow I have a bought copy that is useless to me sitting here, I am using the pirate copy. And if microsoft don't like it, TUFF! I paid my money and I refuse to get ripped off. I will use the version that seems to work best. Cheers..
