Windows XP Taskmanager Not Running

Comment:
Windows XP Task Manager does not come up when Ctrl-Alt-Delete is pressed or when the task Bar is right clicked and Task Manager Selected. However if you go to the system32 directory and execute taskmgr.exe it will come up. Keyboard is good. Any thoughts?

Problem as system restore was turned off, and taskmgr.exe got re-located to /system directory. Performing a virus scan, very unusual.

You have a P4 with a 2.0 GHz cpu. I assume along with that you have a lot of HD space. Why do users with ample HD space disable System Restore which can get the user out of trouble if need be.
It seems the majority of people that visit this forum have their SR disabled. How many headaches would be eliminated by having System Restore enabled on their humongus hard drives.

I dont think he was saying that System Restore being off had anything to do with it, I think he was hinting that he may have a virus that shut it off and moved his file.

The normal folder location for taskmgr.exe is the /system32 folder, so it didnt get moved, it was always there, I bet if other computing.net readers do a search, they will find it there also, maybe try putting a shortcut to taskmgr.exe in your start menu somewhere and try to make a hot key to it using Ctrl-Alt-Del, if that doesnt work, maybe somebody else can help
