While I boot my computer either in safe mode of Normal, Windows will hang-up. I booted with command prompt and system stopped on file Mup.exe. Please help

I have never heard of "mup.exe", but do a search on yahoo and you get this:
http://www.arkkra.com/doc/dosinst.html
It is a dos program for cataloging(sp?) music files. I am not sure if you installed this, but if you did, that could be the problem, although I do not know why your computer would be needing to load that to load windows. Try starting up in dos mode, and then navigating to your "autoexec.bat" file, and see if it has an entry for mup.exe in it.
Good Luck!

Nothing in autoexec.bat. Would this file be a high demand program to cause memory problems? In other words, would a bad ram chip cause a lockup during the loading of this file?

Unless you are writing and printing music, I would try saving this file to a floppy and then deleting it and see what kind of difference it makes.

OK.... I didn't even get the chance to delete the file or to even get in the command prompt. Computer is now dead. Monitor has no signal, Hard drive starts but LED stays on, everything is powered up but no screen or boot-up beeps. Previously in the past three or four start-ups, After a few minutes, I would get a memory dump. Could this be a CPU failure or motherboard?

I am having the same problem - only my machine reboots itself after hanging for a minute or so. Is it possible that mup.exe is infected with a virus? Is it possible that the program could cause hardware failure?
Thanks for any advice.
