Windows Xp Startup prob

Hey guys,

I am really confuzled, ages ago i had windows 98 installed on my pc, i formatted my hard drive an installed windows xp, everything was fine until i reinstalled windows (Xp) and i got a funny lookin DOS screen giving me a choice of Os's, the choices are - microsoft windows , and microsoft windows xp home edtion, if i click microsoft windows nothing happens, i have to click microsoft windows xp home edtion to get into my computer, i have formatted my harddrive so many times to try and remove this but nothing works, does any1 know how i can sort this out? email me at Chris@chris-s.co.uk please!

If your problem continues, it sounds a little like the problem described in message 45611 (dated 10/22/02) on this board. Take a look at it, especially Dan's Response No.1.

Try this
From your desktop..
Right click 'my computer', click 'properties,
click the 'advance' tab,
click the 'settings' tab under the Startup and Recovery heading,
UNCHECK the 'Time to Display List of Operating Systems',
click OK.
Reboot.

There is a hidden file called boot.ini in your active partition (Drive C: most likely), open it and modify it.

If you want to edit the OS selection to just show XP, follow response # 3. Instead of unchecking the time to display OS, click edit instead and delete the line for the old windows under the [operating systems].

Note:
DO NOT DELETE the line with WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional"
