Specs: Windows XP
I keep seeing posts that talk about not being able go into standby or hibernate mades. I have the opposite problem, my computer for no apparent reason will just standby or hibernate. Kind of annoying. I just formatted my hard drive and i think something happened while i was doing the updates, about halfway thru it started again. HELP Please

This may be your power options.

Goto Start > Control Panel(classic view) > Power options
On that window, Where it says System Hibernate and System standby, Put the dropdown box as never. (i think it's a dropdown box).
Anyway, even if thats ok, still check all the settings on there for anything that may be causing it.

Also, Make sure your Windows Updates have fully downloaded and installed. Because sometimes if they fail they can do some heavy damage to your PC, because it happened to me not so long back.

OH AND BY THE WAY, Tell me if your on a laptop. Because some laptops hibernate or shutdown when a little button is pressed(which detects if the screen has closed)
If this is true, do what i said on power options, and make sure the option for "when lid is closed" make sure thats on "does nothing"
Just saying incase it is a laptop.
Hope this helps.
