Note that it's over 200Mb and if you look through some of the postings here, not everyone's happy with the results (though I am).

I ran across a link somewhere the other day (not here) and ordered the free CD (6 to 8 weeks). They are supposed to be available in stores about now, too. (Best Buy, Circuit City, etc)

Good luck.

XpUser,

A while back some articles did state that you could get the CD's in stores but I do not know how true it is or if they are going to but it was stated.

No I never stated that. All I stated is that they will be distributed in mosat of the trade computer magazines next month. One thing I can say, Microsoft will never be like AOL - distribute the discs everywhere :-)

Are you up to date on your version of Windows Update? Those that have Version 5 rather than Version 4 will get access to SP2 a lot faster than Version 4. Version 5 should install automatically when you check for updates. I've had to manually install Version 5 for a few friends of mine that still had 4 and wondered why they couldn't download SP2. SP2 "should" be available to just about everyone that wants to download now. My download was only 76MB since it checks your system and all other patches and updates that were installed on SP1. If you are up to date, then SP2 will be that much smaller to download, rather than the huge file that could be up to 750MB or more.

My suggestion is to wait with installing SP2 until most of the problems have been resolved!
There are to many problems with it (you can see it yourself through all the postings on the Internet).

Thanks for the link blueverine. I found the link somewhere, on another tech support site, didn't remember where. I've also seen the notes here and there today about Staples having the CD's. Like mtlieb says, tho, do we want to jump in and install it yet? Also, I have seen mentions of slipstreaming the CD so if you install XP it automatically installs the SP2 as well. Sounds like a good way to go, avoiding two install processes.

The best and easiest-to-understand method can be found here: (just paste it into your browser)

http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/windowsxp_sp2_slipstream_asp.

It's a bit complicated, but I'll bet someone here on computing.net can figure it out for the rest of us. Make our lives simpler, eh?

Most people I've talked with seem to like SP2, but recommend not using the AV and firewall. Use your own. The SP2 versions are minimal and don't do a great job. Just slightly better than nothing. Longhorn will have the good ones. Maybe.

Good luck. HTH :) Bob
