Sounds like you are in abit of a mess ther my friend !!!!!!!!!!
tell us how you have the rig configured, dual boot ??? Which partition is the xp on ? And which Partition is 2000 ON ?
Did you try booting in safe mode and running system restore from there ??
IF IT AINT BROKE, DONT FIX IT
A8N-SLI Deluxe
AMD X64 3500+ Wnchst
Corsair 2x512 DDR400 Dual Channel
GV-NX6600128D PCIX Graphics Card
Ggbyte GT Pro CPU Cooler
Zalman VF700-CU VGA Cool

Win XP SP2 broke applications all over the place, so at least take heart in being not alone.
however, to analyze your many problems as best as my single-tasking brain can do:
1. spyware after SP2 is not the fault of SP2. As far as I know most attacks are still based upon XP code, not specifically SP code.
2. crashes most likely related to scars left on system files by malware. try "sfc/ scannow" at a command prompt. Use a registry checker to repair registry (in safe mode).
3. last known good configuration only works to restore the last time you successfully logged in.
4. crashing at the login screen indicates Master Boot Record is okay, but critical system files are damaged. Try booting to your WinXP c.d. as you did, but get to the recovery console and type "fixboot C:"
5. If you can get to your windows XP after this, check the Data Execution Prevention setting.
control panel>system>advance>performance settings>data execution prevention
the upper radio button should be selected, i.e. turned on for essential windows programs.

Sometimes this helps.
If you have trouble with sp2 after installing boot to the safe mode and go to the boot.ini file in C: drive, Open properties and uncheck the read only box. Then open the file with notepad. Look for
/noexecute=optin. Change it to /noexecute=AlwaysOff.
This has worked for me as drwtsn.exe file has stopped the loading at the desktophttp://computervitals.com/
