I've got several windows XP Pro SP1 machines that experience a 30-sec lag when intially connecting to map drives.
Further details:
Once the drive has been accessed intially, there is no reconnect lag for consistent use. However, ff the drive isn't accessed for say 20-30 minutes, reconnecting experiences the same lag.
These machines are behind the same switch on the same network as some Win2k machines. All these machines are on a 2k AD Domain. The win2k boxes connect instantly to the map drives and experience no problems.
Fixes Tried and Failed:
-Pointing the primary DNS on the client to the domain controller

*Network Browsing Speed Increase
*note that the information contained in the above link is for Windows 2000. It has been noted that the fix also pertains to Windows XP.
