Please help, yesterday I booted up the PC and a message came up saying that some Original Windows XP files have been tampered with, so I should insert the Original CD to Re-copy these files.

I have an Original Windows XP pro CD

I done that, then it said the system recovered from serious Error.

Today, I booted up the computer, and I was told some Registry files had been tampered with, but were recovered successfully from a log.

Can anyone, please tell me what is going on and what I should do ?

Some core files to the Windows OS became corrupt, and Windows prompted you to insert the Windows XP Pro disc so it could copy over the proper files to replace the bad ones. When you restarted your system, you were notified that the system recovered from a serious error, because that is exactly what it did. This is why you needed to insert the Windows XP disc. The registry also became corrupt, so Windows also restored that.

For preventitive measure, I would advise that you do an adware and virus scan, as well as defrag your HDD, and run a scandisk to fix any errors. Just open up the command prompt, and type in chkdsk c: /f /r. Choose to preform the disk check when windows restarts, and press enter. Now type in restart -r -t 01 and press enter at the command prompt to restart your system.

There is only one stupid question, The question that is not asked

Dale ...

You may want to get familiar with the sfc.exe command

"How to use scannow sfc...

The main reason for using this utility is when you suspect there may be a problem with a Windows XP system file.

Perhaps you get a dialog box appear informing you of a problem with a .dll file, or your program will just not load! It is therefore worth checking to see if there are any corrupt system files using scannow sfc.

To do this simply go to the Run box on the Start Menu and type in:

sfc /scannow (note the space between sfc and the slash)

This command will immediately initiate the Windows File Protection service to scan all protected files and verify their integrity, replacing any files with which it finds a problem."

Hope this is helpful to you. Post back and tell us of your success.

thanks for your responses, I tried what you told me to do, done it and the message does not seem to be coming up any more.

But now, my windows XP start-up menu changes everytine I restart the PC, one time its teh windows XP start menu and the other a Classical Windows XP and so on.

Does anyone know whats going wrong ?
