Comment: Does anyone know of a one line command that I can set to an icon for a windows xp fast shutdown? The one line command that I used for 98 & ME does not function with XP.

Reply: (edit)Rumor has it that the slow shutdown is for a fast boot up. I'm told that our computers are actually putting programs into some kind of order which is why we are hanging, waiting for the screen to go blank. I assume that is also why no quick shut down mechinisms work with XP.

Reply: (edit)To create a shutdown and restart shortcuts, right click the desktop, select new, select shortcut. In the shortcut window type shutdown -s -t 0 to shutdown and shutdown -r -t 0 to restart (be aware of spaces), fill name for the shortcut. The shutdown requires that you shutoff power manually.

Reply: (edit)[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control] "WaitToKillServiceTimeout"="400" AFAIK default is "20000"
