You trust you kid on the computer after you go to bed. Are you crazy? I would not allow my kids on the computer after I was to go to bed. You password lock that baby and then you turn it off before you go to sleep.

I digress, in order to get a log of when the computer was shut down you can either look through the event logs...

Click Start -> Righ-Click "My Computer" -> Click "Manage" -> Expand the "Event Viewer" tree and look for the Security Audit which will show the successful logoffs.

or if your kid is smart enough to clean the audit logs, you can make a log.bat script that will write the date and time to a a log file and set it up under MS-Scheduler because if your kid turns off the computer with the power switch then it will not log the time in the audit. By putting a logger in MS-Scheduler you will know within 5 minutes of when they turned the computer off. Just make a text file that has the following script in it...

@echo off
Now > c:\log.txt

Then save the file with a .bat exstention so the computer knows it should be executed. Then goto MS-Scheduler in the Control Panel and schedule to run that file every 5 minutes.
