Windows XP Shutdown Problems

OS: XP
CPU/Ram: 1.25GHz/256MB
Comment:

XP will not shut down properly. It freezes. Viruses were found, quarantined and deleted.
Besides disabling unwanted startup programs
in "msconfig", what could be the problem?

try repairing Windows XP...Insert the Disk, restart Windows and follow through the on screen instructions, DO NOT format, just click Repair Windows...then try again, if that doesn't work, come back and post another message...
