Subject: Windows XP shutdown problem
OS: Windows XP Pro SP2
CPU/Ram: Intel Core 2 1.86 GHz/2.0
Model/Manufacturer: Dell XPS 410
Comment:

As soon as I select the shutdown button a message box briefly appears that states "lsass.exe - DLL initialization failed The application failed to initialize because window station is shutting down." I am using Trend Micro PC-cillin internet security 14, adaware se, spybot search and destroy. Nothing has been found. I have also run sfc /scannow, which did not correct this issue. In addition I ran chkdsk /p and /r. Someone please help me, I cannot fix this no matter what I try.

Voodoo Child, dunno the cause of your glitch nor it's cure, but do know of a workaround.
FWIW, Windows seems to have been plagued with shutdown problems of one sort or another since day 1. I use a standalone shutdown proggie (for convenience) called 'Slawdog' (said to work on all versions. I run XP Pro and know it works on that). Get it free @:
http://www.slawdog.com/products/sma...
among other places. Works good and I drag/dropped the icon into my quicklaunch so it'd be handy for use.

Hi Voodoo Child,

I don't know either but I do know that a few years ago, when I was running Windows 98SE (another system famous for its shutdown problems), all the shutdown problems disappeared once I started running a good registry cleaner once a week.

Try this: Run msconfig and deselect everything in the startup tab. Reboot and then immediately shutdown. If you don't get the message, one of the programs in the startup tab 'may' have trouble shutting down. Use the process of elimination to determine which (if any) is causing the error message.

If adding them all back and the message doesn't appear, it might be some other program that you are running during your normal operation.

Did this start after a new install?
