I need Help! When i install windows and its copying files to the PC i get a "canot copy Shell32.dll" error i skip this and let it continue but then later on into installation i get a unable to continue setup Shell32.dll missing!
Doh!I dont know if its fixable but would be greatful to anyone who can help me !
Peace!

Sounds like a problem I am having except with msgina.dll. Thing is if I hit retry a few times it copies the file ok, but the OS gets a blue screen 2/3 times when booting, so it was not a sucessful install.
This is a VERY common problem from what I'm finding with installing Windows 2000 or XP.
Do you have an Athlon processor?

Hello!
No. not Athlon! K6-2 500mhz. (not the best lol) Im not sure if this is the problem though!
Cheers m8

Hey there,
i am having the same error, except every time, it is a different .dll file that mysteriously cannot be copied...
I have an ASUS board, Athlon 800 (slot 2?), 16MG diamond video card, seagate HD, 256 MG ram, Philips CD-RW.
Why does this happen? Retrying the file copy only works once and eventually, with 9 minutes left on the XP install, i get a blue screen with a long error message. So, its another night without XP. Help!

I Have exactly the same problem with the following files:
tcpip.sys
shell32.dll
mshtml.dll
sstext3d.scr
TourW.exe
after I skipped the Tourw.exe the system stucks and I have to reboot. After reboot the system begins to copy the install files again and the same files can't be copied.
Help :(

I dont know if you are still having this problem but I am having this problem now. I am installing windows xp upgrade and I am getting the same messages. I found this post on computing.net and I am going to try it tonight. Please let me know if any of you tried anything else to get it to work.

I have had the same pproblem with the shell32.dll, one thing that i've tried and seems to work,is using the windows 2k cd instead at the moment the install of XP demands the file. Once it have copied the file and stops again to ask for another file you just have to replace the 2k cd with the xp one. this seems to work even if i still have problems with XP

yea i get this same stupid problem as well... tho not only with this file, but with others on the CD. However, its weird, if i push enter enough times for the other ones, eventually it will copy and move on. But on certain files, like the shell32.dll, it won't work. Funny thing, it worked once, after i flashed my bios (ABIT KT7A mobo). But then it started to restart whenever i started up windows flashing some error message. Anyone have a solution? please gimmie an email if you happen to. Thanks

Same problem here... :(
Brand new pc and new HW and it always sais "can't copy this file, can't copy that file"... Some files can be copied after some tries but others like system32.dll never do. And if i skip them i get a bluescreen... Now i'm trying to back-up the CD on my HDD and install it from there... Hope it works.

There is information on this problem on the microsoft windows xp support page. The url is http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?id=kb;en-us;Q310064#3
The page title is How To troubleshoot Windows XP setup problems....and there is a heading called "You Receive a File Copy Error During Setup". There are several different causes and fixes there. Hope they work, as I'm having the same problem. Good luck, all.
