Hi,
I have been trying to run Wix XP (Home) setup from DOS using the six XP setup floppy disks but keep getting the same error. I insert each of the disks in turn and it loads all the files okay and then asks for the Win XP Home CD. After inserting the CD it seems to continue as normal, it shows the terms and conditions, asks which partition you want to install XP on and then asks if I want to convert it to NTFS or leave as FAT32. However this is as far as I get. After choosing either NTFS or FAT32, I get the following error message:- The following value in the .SIF file used by Setup is corrupted or missing: Value 0 on the line in section [SourceDisksFiles] with key "SP1.cab." Setup cannot continue.

Can anyone please help? Can I replace a file on the floppy disks or anything else? Any help would be much appreciated!

Many thanks!!!

may I ask why are you trying to format and install with the floppy disks is there a reason why you can`t go into the bios, make your cd first boot device and boot straight into the xp cd setup?

I'm not sure what you are trying to do with the floppies, since you have the cd and a cd drive??!?

Xp insn't really supposed to be or built to install from floppy. Not to say that it can't be done, although you would have write up your own autoexec.bat file......but why bother???

If by any chance you have an upgrade version, install Win 9X or ME on C drive and from the Windows running, start the XP setup and install on D drive. If your drive is big enough partition it to get one FAT 32 primary C set active and use the extended remaining portion to make some FAT 32 logical drives like D,E,F that you format. You can use a Windows ME dos boot disk to do this.Good luck.

Hi guys,
thanks for all the replies, the reason I'm trying it from the floppy disks is because the setup won't run from the CD alone, not sure why?!

Hi,
what I meant is that it won't run in DOS from startup. It's a new installation version, not an upgrade. I currently have Win 98SE and can run the CD from there but don't particularly want two OS's on my system. Is there anyway I can install XP from Win 98 and then uninstall the Win 98. I tried installing 98 on the D drive and then XP on the C drive and then formatted the D drive again but it still gives me the multiboot option screen when I start up. Any help would be much appreciated thanks!!

what you need to do is boot up and go into the bios (press del or f8 or f1, depending on your machine), go into boot sequence, make your cd drive first boot and disable all other drives in the boot menu ie. floppy, ide etc, make sure your xp disk is in the drive your`e gonna boot from, f10 the bios (save and exit). You have now forced the comp to mount from the cd (xp) in the drive, follow the on screen instructions, don`t forget when you have installed xp go back into the bios and reset to default (f5) check the options tho might be different on your machine. HTH

Hi,
yeah, i know how to boot from CD okay, but the problem is that setup wouldn't run in DOS from the CD?! It's okay though, I've found out what was wrong with the floppy disks. My XP CD includes SP1a however the XP setup floppy disks I had were for the original XP version, I didn't realise each version needed different setup disks. Many thanks anyway.
