I recently tried to do a Fresh install of Windows xp pro on a gateway desktop. After going into the windows setup i revived an error message saying Cannot Install This Hardware. There was a problem installing this Hardware: System. I have been working on computers for a few years now and have never seen anything like this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

since you are doing a clean install...use a third party drive utility to fix and repair your harddrive by formatting it aq couple of times as well....left over remnents from a poor formatting will sometimes cause this!
