Windows XP running very slow

Comment:
I am using a Dell Dimension 2350 PC, with an Intel Celeron 1.8ghz processor and 640MB of RAM. The main applications that I use are Microsoft Ofice 2000 programmes. Basically, the computer seems to be very slow - much slower that the 600MHZ, 128MB RAM machine that it is replacing! (the old machine used Windows 98SE). Also, it seems to run out of memory very quickly (it came with 128mb RAM and I installed another 512MB block. However, sometimes I get a message along the lines of "insufficient memory". Finally, when I am using Internet Explorer and open a link in a new window, after doing this about ten times, the links no longer open and I have to restart the computer to be able to continue using the internet properly. One last thing - the PC is linked to other PCs on a peer-to-peer network, the network is working fine. The latest version of Norton anti-virus is installed on the system. Any help would be much appreciated. Many thanks in advance.

Defrag your drive, clear out all temp files including cookies.
Then d/load Ad-aware (www.lavasoftusa.com) install it, UPDATE IT, then run a full scan of your registry and drives, REMOVE everything it finds. Takes about 5 mins.
