I had a similar problem on a friends computer.

I had to unistall the NIC card and reinstall, this took care of the problem, not sure why, and not sure if it will work on yours.

May have been an IRQ conflict as it only happened when accessing the internet through the browser.

This is weird, I installed XP today as well and I got that shut-down thing (where it gives you 60 seconds?) for the first few hours. It seems to have settled down now though and it hasn't done it once I'd got all my drivers installed.

Have you downloaded all the updates and the service pack? I put a few of those on so maybe one of them fixed my problem.

i found out how to fix it if anyone has the problem, this site has the instructions and what the problem is. http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/rfc1831.html
you go to control panel, administrative tools, services, remote procedure call and recovery tab and chose take no action on all three.
