I have a Dell 4600 Dimension desktop and it has had some problems for the past few months. I decided to finally get around to fixing it because it is a lot faster than any of the other computers I use. It was running fine until I connected to the internet. Now its telling me that I have registry problems. Every time I connect to the internet it slows waaaaay down and it is on a slow internet connection but I don't think that should affect the CPU performance at all. All my programs start slowing down and all of the internet browsers I have tried (firefox, Opera, even Internet explorer ::vomit::) will not respond correctly at all. I plan on getting a high speed connection on that computer soon but I don't see the point if its just going to be messing up all the time and freezing whenever I try to visit a URL in any browser. How do I fix my Registrys, how do I figure out what else is wrong and where can I get file downloads to help solve this problem for free. Please help, I need to save my computer!

Hi Eric,
Since you are saying ur PC slows down only when u connect to the Internet...this means that when u connect to the Internet some program or programs are trying to access the Internet (spywares I guess)... Once you connect to the Internet goto the task manager & try to kill the unneeded processes....if thats too tough for u...click on start > run > type in MSCONFIG hit enter...click on the startup tab above ...uncheck everything...click apply...reboot ur pc then try to connect to the Internet...You will find some change....try downloading aan anti spyware prog...I would recommend Adaware which can be downloaded from http://www.securityalertz.com... Good Luck!!!

Spyware removal:
AdAware SE
ScanSpywareAnti-virus removal
AVG Antivirus (make sure its updated)Browser Highjacks
HighJackThis.Registry cleaner:
TweakNow RegcleanerThese are all free programs except for ScanSpyware, run those and you should be set.
Clean all of those
------
Get FireFox You'll be happy you did.

I think you are on the right track Buzz but would rather see online virus checker like Trend Micro or Bit Defender, that is skilled at killing Trojans and Avg is not the one.
