Windows XP Repair problems

OS: Win XP with SP1a
CPU/Ram: Celeron 1.1GHz/512 Mb SDR
Comment:

After doing either a repair or upgrade of my existing XP installation, my dial-up connections disappear. I am unable to recreate them as the modem option in the create new connection is grayed out.

I have already tried the suggestions in the Microsoft KB with no success.

Any suggestions?

reinstall modem drivers.
