Windows xp repair install wont see

Ok my computer had a no operating system found error so i didnt have my xp disk on my and i was desperate to see it up and running so i shoved in my norton ghost 9 cd and went to tools or utilities (something like that) and clicked restore master boot record and it just made it worst so i finally got my hands on my xp cd and tried repair install but xp didnt see any windows installation :( what am i to do ? i think all of my mp3's are still on there i hope since i didnt reformat or even worse i hope i didnt mess up the partition does any one have any ideas or if you think my music and files are gone what is the best recover program before i give up all hope and can norton go back help me out ? like if i boot into it but im scared of norton now it made things worse
