Hi

A few days ago the nimda virus managed to run on one of my XP PC's. Its renamed or messed around with some of the windows system files. Now when I insert my XP disk to try and install windows over the current installation I get an error saying

"Bad Image -> The application or DLL d:\i386\PIDGen.dll is not a valid Windows Image. Please check this against your installation diskette."

and

The files d:\i386\winnt32u.dll could not be loaded or is corrupt. Setup cannont continue.

I cannot really afford to format the c drive and m xp disk is not a bootable one.

Can any one advise me please on any way I maybe able to rescue.

If there are any details that I have not highlghted please let me know and I will do what i can to find them out.

thanks

Nighthawk

First of all make sure you have completely cleaned that virus.

Then put your windows xp disk in your cdrom.
Next go to start \run type in cmd

Then at the prompt type in sfc/ scannow

If that does not solve your problem then you need to perform a repair to xp.

You will not lost any files. But you will have to reinstall your service packs.

get the step by step here....

Repair

Did you get it fixed yet Nighthawk? And what do you mean when you say your disc is not "bootable"?

Hi again

I ran the scan now command. But it has not cured my reinstallaion of xp problem.

You, it is a copy, as i cannont afford a real one. :|

I can get my pc into dos mode. I created an XP boot disk from www.bootdisk.com. But when I run setup.exe from the windows disk it just says "cannont be run in dos mode".

Is there anyway I can get the setup to run from DOS? I found this tutorial http://winxp.bink.nu/bootcd/default.htm.

Would this do the trick?

Thanks
