I usually re-install windows every 8-12 months. But this time I cannot get past the first reboot when re-installing Win XP. After the setup files are copyed over from the CD to the hard drive and windows reboots for the first time, it comes back looking like a normal reboot, but at the point where it should continue with the re-install, the screens go blank. I figure maybe its the video card so I tried it on another system and the card works. (Its a dual monitor ATI Radeon 7200) So I believe that its my windows which finally got so corrupt that it does not load the video drivers after a reboot. Incidently, Using the same pc, videocard and another hard drive I am able to install windows and the video comes up on both screens. Any Ideas what could be wrong or causing the video signal not to show upon a reboot.

I don't know how to respond. It's rather odd that you would wanna do that. Is there a specific reason? Was there a problem or do you just think that it's a good thing to do? It doesn't appear that you formatted so you must be doing a "repair installation"?

Usually I back up everything and reformat the drive and re-install XP and my applications. And I usually do that when my system starts slowing down. But this time on one of my reboots, the screen comes up with the usual post messages, the Win XP boot image comes up but when it changes to load windows, its blank. I figured maybe its time to get a clean install, but i did nto back up. So i am attempting to do a re-install of Windows (without formating my drive). But the monitor goes blank after a reboot. I thought it would be the card but it isn't, since I tried it on another system. It starts off like its installing, the monitor has a signal but on the first reboot when it comes back, its a blank screen.

Remove all devices except 1 memory module and the video card and try it. If no go swap the memory modules. That is usually a device driver problem.
