Windows xp refuses to install

Specs: Windows XP
Pls i need an assistance,i just formated my system and when i tried to use windows xp cd to install ,some files couldn't copy and after i skipped them, installation stop and asked me to quit after copying to 100% and a message says "cannot copy nlhive blah blah,line 0 is corrupt". i tried other cds but all the same. Pls help. the system is thinkpad 600x.

It sounds like your CD drive might be marginally bad.

Another 'less likely' possibility is a memory problem. You could try running memtest86:
http://memtest86.com/
There is a version to create a bootable floppy diskette and/or an ISO for creating a CD.
Run it overnight and any failures are unacceptable.

By the way, skipping files during an install is not a good idea. An install should run flawlessly.

You could 'try' a cleaning disk on the CD drive.

You said you formatted and then used your XP cd to install, is that correct? Normally you would use the XP cd to format the drive and install together.

Did you use some other means to format your drive?

How many cds have you tried?

Are they all genuine XP installation CD? I doubt it because nlhive.inf is not part of genuine Windows installation files.

nlhive.inf is part of the Nlite slipstreaming application. This means that you either did not produce the correct slipstream disc or it has been corrupted.
