Dear Friends,
I have a Pentium III 933 Mhz,20 gig Hard disk,and 128 Mb SDRam.
I just recently instlled Windows XP Pro on my d: leaving c: on windows 98.During the installation my computer randomly restarted by itself while copying the setup files. This process continued endlessly until i started pressing the 'spacebar' button of my keyboard. There were some problems with a lot of dll's that couldn't be found.I finally managed to complete the setup pressing the 'spacebar' button for 45 minutes.
When for the first time XP booted on my computer i got error
messages-: 1)Windows cannot load your profile because it may have become corrupted.2)Windows has backed up the users profile. It wil auto matically try to use backed profile the next time this user logs on. I am the only user so have admin priveldges. This problem has left my PC with only default settings and no way to configure email etc. I have tried system restore and also reinstalling XP,but all in vain.I can neither change my backgroud but can only change my background colour.
Also, the next time i try to restart my win xp all the desktop icons dissapear including my computer and Internet Explorer, what remains is only the desktop shortcuts.I have to switch to classic view in order to get the basic desktop icons back.

Also when i point my mouse on the all programs button it shows the folder 'empty' although i have installed many programs on my computer.

Add to this i have an another major problem, all of a sudden xp pro started randomly restarting itself. So i re-installed xp and it either restarts or it comes up with a blue error message before it restarts itself.Error code is below-:
Error code 000000c5, parameter1 e5726854, parameter2 00000002, parameter3 00000001, parameter4 80537345.
I took an advice from my friend and followed this method to fix my problem-:
1- go to system properties (Rclk my computer / properties )
2- Click Advanced, Click Startup and Recovery
3- Uncheck Automatically reboot (under the "System Failure" Section),
but this too did not help to solve the problem.

I hope i could get a favourable response from you.

regards,
sredharan

IMO all those problems you are having are result of faulty installation.
Try again to clean install XP. If your system will keep restarting again try unpluging all unnecessary hardware such as modem, network card, sound card ect. You could also try reseting your BIOS settings to default.
Hope this helps.

have you checked your hardware for xp compatibility?updated your bios?
removed all peripherals during install and check sound and video and any other internal
cards for xp compatibilty,if all is compatible? then do a clean install of xp

My suggestion? Get rid of windows 98 for a start, as dual booting with this operating system has caused me nothing but hassles everyt time. I suggest you format your c: drive and clean install windows XP on that, as it would be your primary hard drive, and operating systems don't like operating of secondary hard drives. Hope this can be of some help, I know it is a drastic measure but, like I said, dual booting with windows 98 is not a very wise idea. Windows SP professional is the best operating system I have ever seen by far.
