I've tried to install windows XP twice and I keep getting this error message after the "Preparing install" and when setup begins "Installing Windows"

Installation Error D:\I386\ams.
Fatal Error:
One of the components that Windows needs to continue setup could not be installed.

The parameter is incorrect.

Bad Media?
Try with another copy of WinXP.

Bad CDROM Drive? Try with another drive.

Plus: Delete all temporary files that Windows Setup save in your many installations attempts
this folders are identified as $namefolder$
you can delete them with no problem.

goodluck

I sure hope there is help for this.

OMICRON none of those help. I have extensive information on this problem.
The important information not the folders it fails findsing but the rest of the message "manifest is missing". I have tried countless ways to do the install always the same problem then I yanked my hard drive out and did a install on my other machine running XP that did the install no problem and got this fail so its something to do with the hard drive. This happens if you try to upgrade the OS or a clean install.

The really odd part of information is either hard drive on that machine will not install XP. I wonder if I may have put some sort of max blast - ex HD install stuff on there in the past that are conflicting.

I have tried fdisk ripping the partitions and starting, installing win fat 32 and ntfs, I even used a maxtor tool to do a byte by byte sector check on the HD it said I had no bad sectors. I also used the utility to remove the boot sectors. I am totally out of ideas here.

I also had the same problem when I installed the XP Pro. The message was saying "Fatal error- one of the components windows need to continue setup could not be installed. The parameter is incorrect. "

If you have this CRC.exe software and run it on Dos prompt, you will see the same error message from the XP CD. The OMICRON is right, it could be a bad media or I think the controls.man file is corrupted.

Could someone please help?

Thanx
