My XP Professional Build 2600 restarts ifself every time I try to copy or read a file from the CD-ROM. I belive itīs the chipset on the motherboard that causing that (VIA Apollo Pro133A) because it have so many other problems. It is a Asus P3V4X motherboard and a LG 52X cd-rom. I also have a problem with the graphic driver. Iīve tried Nvidias XP 21.83 driver to my Creative Geforce 256 Pro but XP continous hanging. Iīve would be pleased if anyone could give me an answer.

I'm using the same build XP, ABIT VP6 via apollo pro 133A and a creative geforce2 GTS.
Yes most of the problems your having are due to the chip set. You need to install the 4n1 4.35 via drivers. These are a must and by default they disable sideband addressing for your AGP slot as this is a known problem causing unsability on this chipset. The graphics drivers you have are ok but not briliant you'll still have to dissable AGP fastwrites in your Bios to gain more stability. I've run with them ok for weeks but now there are new ones 23.11 that are fantastic running direct x 8 games and apps. Another problem I had with my PC was I have 512Meg ram so I put up the AGP aperture size to 128Meg big mistake. It sent my system silly so now I only set it to 64Meg or lower and have no problems.
As for your CD problems there seems to be a few things you can try. Many people are reporting that different CDR software is causing all sorts of greef. If you look around here you'll find people who may have an answer for you. If not, mail me with details of the software you have installed and its version then I'll try to be more specific. I've also obtained a newer ASPI cd driver for XP that works great. I cant remember where I got it but I'll mail it to you if you like.
Check out www.tweakxp.com/ I,ve seen CD and CDR fixes there plus loads of other stuff you may find interesting.
Keep at it!
