My Desktop is going fine. I have some problems though. say I click and drag an Item my computer will do that fine no lagging or anything but when it comes to opening anything it takes a long time. or switching between programs. I use kazaa and the task manager says it is taking up 90 percent of my cpu. Is this normal? when kazaa is going the computer is just beyond locking up. Does this mean I need more Memory or do I need to install a bigger processor? I know how to install memory but the processor is different. If you think it is the processor that is making switching between programs slow please give me a link or the know how to install a new processor. Thanks (I know processors dont come cheap and its not easy installing so dont laught at me yet:)

While your processor is a few years old it will handle almost all apps out there today. You are a bit shy on memory though. 128MBs of memory is the absolute minimum for XP - IMHO. Upgrading your memory is a must. Upgrading to a faster processor will not hurt either but is not mandatory. Get rid of Kazaa and install Kazaa Lite. Kazaa Lite does not come with the baggage Kazaa has.

Get rid of all of it, do not even use the light version. it is full of gator spyware. I suggest adware for getting rid of spyware. if you have had Kazaa then you are loaded with it. That is why your CPU has been working so hard, sending and gathering info to send all over the net.

KaZaA is definitely evil, there are many other ways to download using P2P clients that do not use spyware. I have an 866MHz P3 with 384 MB RAM that runs faster than many new computers (IMHO) and just by keeping regular maint. on it will help it run better.... Some good programs to mess with are: Spyware S&D (removal of spyware), get it at download.com (freeware) and JV16 PowerTools (www.jv16.org). Run these programs following the directions then run a defrag and you should be running smooth. Also, another idea is to upgrade to 256 MB RAM or more. Odds are you have a motherboard with either 100MHz or 133 MHZ SDRAM, and that stuff is cheap, I got 256 MB for $40 almost a year ago so.... Take those tips and post with the results.

Dan
