Comment: Ive tried alot of things to fix my computer, in the process i think i have even made it worse. the original problem started, when i did a error check on windows, and it said it had found a serious error. i did that check because my CD RW wasnt working. so i decided to download updates from windows site. the download finished, my computer restarted, and thats all it does now. I can get into BIOS, and thats about it. the windows XP logo loads, then restarts teh computer again. Now it doesnt even do that sence ive tried so many boot disks just trying to get it to work. my XP cd wont load, but my windws ME one will. i try to install ME over XP, but it wont let me nor will it let me format my hard drive. ive created a simple MS-DOS disk using my dads lap top(he has XP as well, and this is how im making this m]post), and it says A:> or whatever, and i dont know ANYTHING about MS-DOS, and i cant get it to go to my C drive to i can format it. i figure if i format the drive, i can reinstall at least ME on it. at this point in time, i dont care if i lose all my files, i just want it fixed. :) im thinking about buying a new hard drive and loading Windows on there, and making that old drive a slave drive adn see if i can access it from the n ew one. im not sure yet. it just wont start at all and said there isnt even a OS on there anymore. IF anyone can help me, PLEASE e-mail me. i wont be able to check theboards that much, so e-mail will be easier. thank you :)

Reply: (edit)There is no such thing as DOS anymore, it died years ago in the Windows family. What you need to do, is d/load the 6 Xp boot floppies from Microsoft.com. Once you have your 6 disks, use them for the initial boot process, which will take you to the Xp setup screen enabling you to format/delete/reinstall/repair any or all partitions. Good luck.

Reply: (edit)in bios/setup check your bootup sequence ,set it to boot from cd-rom, then floppy, then hard drive. then put the xp cd in your cd-rom and do a repair install, or a full install to c: it will give you the option to format before installing. if that fails you can get the xp install set through http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm
