Windows XP Pro upgrade problems

CPU/Ram: AMD Duron 900 / 256 megs

I'm having wierd problems upgrading my OS to Windows XP Pro Edition. I can go throught the first three steps with no problems.

The problem I have is the second time that my computer restarts to start installing windows XP pro. Before it even starts, it says there is a fatal error and I can't do anything else but to exit the setup and return back to Windows 98 SE.

The error message says :

Error:
Cannot load C:\WINDOWS\win9xmig\DevUpgrd\MIGRATE.DLL, rc=31 [ERROR=31 (1Fh)]

it said it can't update your driver , its probably corrupt or something.
so what you might want to do is backup all your data and format your hard drive and do a clean install of xp.
don't worry xp will have most of your drivers.
or if you choose not to format your hard drive, you can try to boot from windows xp cd and do the upgrade there.

You almost always want to perform an upgrade by doing a clean install (formatting your hard drive). It'll save you A LOT of problems in the long run.

Is there any other way to do it? Cuz i have 56k and some downloads i have took hours. BTW how do I backup files and which ones am I supposed to backup?

If you are using a burned XP CD, try to get an original XP CD.
