Windows XP Pro startup problem.........
When I turn on my computer it starts to boot normally with access to the bios screen, but then it goes into a screen that states windows did not start successfully and gives some choices, they are:1. safe mode
2. safe mode with networking
3. safe mode with command prompt
4. last known good configuration
5. start windows normallyI can select number "1", "4" or "5" from above and the computer will go into a blue screen wanting to check the file system on c: and it runs through and finds no problems and then restarts the computer and goes back into this problem all over again of going to the screen stating there is a problem and the computer did not start sucessfully...
or I can select numbers "2" or"3" from the list above and it starts to run through loading drivers (never getting to the point I can enter a command) but stops and waits a few seconds and then restarts the computer and goes into this problem all over again of going to the screen stating the computer did not start sucessfully again...
I have not changed any settings or added any new software or hardware recently.
I was thinking maybe it could be my hard-drive having a problem, but if it was, it wouldn't run through checking the file system on c: and state no problems found, would it? (sorry, I'm a rookie)
Any ideas of what may be causing this? I would be greatly thankful for any help.
Thanks,
Glen.

Could be numerous things wrong, hard to tell. The first thing to do is run a repair of Xp.................
Go into your BIOS and set CDROM as 1st Boot Device, save settings and exit. Put your Xp CD in the drive and reboot.
Once at the Xp setup screen make as if you were doing a fresh install, then select the partition/drive Xp is ALREADY on, and hit Enter. You will then see a message along the lines of "Xp already detected on this partition, would you like to repair?"Yes, you would!
If you have problems booting from the Xp CD, you need to d/load the 6 Xp startup floppies from Microsoft.com (make sure you get the right set, Pro or Home) and use those for the initial boot process. They do the same thing, take you to the Xp setup screen where you will be then asked to insert your CD.
