Subject: Windows XP Pro OEM or RETAIL?OS: Win Xp HomeCPU/Ram: Sempron 3100/ 1gig |
Comment: Hi guys, I need to buy a copy of Windows XP for a new system and I stumbled across this on newegg? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16832116059 It says XP Pro OEM and is about $60 cheaper than the Retail. Can anyone tell me what the deal is? Is something missing from the OEM version? Thanks in advance for any help.

Reply: (edit)The only thing missing is the packaging and whatever printed documentation the retail version comes with.

Reply: (edit)Like in the case of everything else there is a catch. The catch to this OEM XP are twofolds: First the license: OEM versions are intended for system builders only and cannot be transferred to another PC once it is installed. Purchasers of this software are required to comply with the terms of the System Builder License, including responsibility for providing all end-user support. Next - you cannot purchase this without buying qualifying hardware. i_XpUser
