I have just built a new system and want to install win xp onto it, I have been runing it on my old system and love it. The installation seems to go fine until I get to the "***** is inspecting your system configuration..." It hangs at that point. The whole system freezes. I need to get XP installed please help!

try going here to make sure that you have compatable hardware!

If you're trying to install win xp on a machine and find that the machine keeps freezing part of the way through the installation, try pulling out all non-essential cards (everything but the graphics card). In many cases, it is an Ethernet card, modem or sound card that is hanging the installer. Once XP is up and running, you can add these cards one at a time.
Hope this helps. Bye

I have tried to remove all non-essential items for the install and it still hangs. I have also visited that URL and following into it I have an understanding that it may be a hardware conflict. However there should be ways around it. I am built on a chaintech 7AJA2E motherboard with the VIA KTE133+686B Chip set, running a AMD socket A Duron 1.1 Ghz processor, 320mb RAM, MAxtor 40 gb 72k rpm HD. MY video card is a PCI slot Radeon SDR 32mb. I think it may be the video card or main board???
Would I be able to install XP onto the HD through another system then attach to the system I want?

Hi Doug,
Installing XP on your HD in another system won't work right unless the other system is exactly the same.
Try taking out one of the memory chips and start over by deleteing the partition, formatting and loading XP. I read somewere this helps with the AMD's. Let me know if it does. Regards

Thanks! I had three SDRRAM Modules in= 128mb, 128mb & 64mb= 320mb. The problem seemed to be the 64mb module. I think it was that XP wanted all the memory to be the exact same on my config. This could be because XP talsk to the hardware more closely. SO, I have XP up and running. Only now I cannot get sound. I have on board sound and a SB LIve. When I enable either one XP will not load??????????????????

Doug,
I'm glad I could help. Its not really the size of the ram but for some unknown reason the AMD's just don't want to see several memory chips. In fact if all three of your chips match in speed (three PC133 or PC100) you could put that that 64mb back in. They must match in speed though.
As far as your sound goes that is a known issue too with the some of soundblaster cards. Just go to the site below and download the XP drivers for your card.

The RAM is of all the same kind and speed. When I put the 64mb mod in XP does not load. My system config w/ XP may want identical chips(i.e. capacity)? I am a bit skeptical of the driver install working because the OS dos not even load when the S. Blaster is in. It freezes right before a load after BIOS. I hower will try it. I was skeptical of the RAM causing the problem. I will load drivers, then install card. THNKS. I hope this thread helps others.
