I have a friend who has windows xp home installed on a new computer (dell).I was wondering if she can install windows xp pro over it. Will it overwrite the home edition?

it wont overwrite HOME an error message will come up saying: u alredy have WinXP os installed on ur system

Just delete WinXP Home with WinXP pro cd, and then install pro.

Your only other option is to upgrade XP Home to Pro ... Since the two are virtually the same ... it's a safe upgrade compared to doing an upgrade from ME or 98
