In the last week or so windows xp pro has started to freeze on me. I have had it for 6 months and no problems but know its freezing. How can I stop this from happening.

You are not going to get very many replies with so little information. What hardware have you installed if any directly prior to windows locking? What software? What are the specs on your machine? stuff like that. mail me if you want me to reread your thread.

1. Is your CPU fan cooling well ? Overheated CPU could cause 'freezing'.
2. You might try going to the Command Prompt, type in 'sfc/scannow'. Your Win XP cd must be in the drive. Takes about 20 minutes to check for missing or corrupted files.
3.Updating your video drivers may help.
4. It wouldn't hurt to scan for viruses on your hard drive.
5. This web article may be useful ...

Have u installed any hardware? Pci cards or usb because u might have an IRQ conflict. I would update everything. Also update XP. good luck

I have not installed anything since I got windows xp. I don't know anything about computers thats why I am on here asking. So I have no idea what info you require. Not everyone is a computer expert.

yeah my windows xp pro freezes up too i have no clue what the problem is. I recently installed a laser mouse. I mean jesus man, if you can't install a laser mouse. It wont freeze during games like Battle Realms, Diablo, Starcraft, no it just freezes when im building websites, using microsoft office, or tpying up an essay.. im glad they have a built in save on microsoft word 2002. I alt+tab out of my game while im kick'n ass and it decides its going to just freeze, my other computers w/ xp work GREAT. I think ill just reinstall without formatting...
what do you guys think?
