Why did you do a repair instal? Was this because your operating system was corrupted? Had a virus? Migrated the drive from another system? Replaced the motherboard?

The reason I ask is I have done several repair instals on different systems in recent times after migrating harddrives into new systems. One would not boot at all, One was successful without any error messages, another had a series of "unable to copy ..... file" error messages during the repair. I had to click the "ignore" button possibly 20 or 30 times for different file copy errors. That system eventually completed the repair instal and has worked flawlessly since.

One thing you might try is to boot the XP CD and go into recovery console to run System File Checker. Command SFC /SCANNOW

Press F8 during startup and try to log into safemode. it should start up with default graphics drivers and allow you to instal the necessary drivers for your card. You didn't answer my question about why you are doing a repair instal.

the initial problem that made me do the first repair installation was the endless rebooting b4 the password login screen. i read somewhere else that repair install would solve it. it did solve the endless reboot but then i got the errors as mentioned in the first post.

my xp pro cd used for repair install is service pack 1. my current pc is using service pack 3. i dunno if this will cause conflicts.

but after i did another repair install, during the repair it says there is an error and software will nto be installed. the pc rebooted and has since gets stuck forever just before the password login screen. then my monitor will say no video input.

It isn't a graphics driver problem. When you try to instal over the top using an older version than the one installed it will generally give the type of error you have.

Using another working system you should create a slipstreamed instal CD that incorporates SP3 then use that to do the repair instal.

There are a number of guides on the net to creating the slipstreamed Instal disk. Google for it.

Has the hardware been tested? A failing hard drive will cause many problems with the original install and when trying a repair many other errors occur.

The attempt to go to SAFE mode will not work since the system is stuck in the repair/install mode, this forces the system to only follow the setup process until the desktop is reached.
