Hello everyone, I am working on a laptop that has a 2ghz processor with 480 ram, and a newly installed copy of windows xp pro on it. The problem is this, when I boot up the laptop, it goes through the boot screens, and shows the Windows XP boot screen, then it just goes black and halts the boot process. Sometimes I am able to see the cursor, and other times not. It did work since I installed xp pro. I had booted it at least a dozen times while doing updates and what not. Any insight would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Does the computer respond the same way if you attempt to boot in to Safe Mode?

tried safe mode, but still has the same problem, boots to a black screen and stops, it does say safe mode in every corner though. It also has the Windows information across the top of the screen, but still nothing else.

Hi,

I have exactly the same problem as Tony.

Boots tp a black screen with cursor (workin)

Same in safe mode - but with white text in corners and windows listing at top.

I have reinstalled Windows XP, but this does not cure it!

Any ideas appreciated, thanks

Sandy
