Comment: Hello everyone, I am working on a laptop that has a 2ghz processor with 480 ram, and a newly installed copy of windows xp pro on it. The problem is this, when I boot up the laptop, it goes through the boot screens, and shows the Windows XP boot screen, then it just goes black and halts the boot process. Sometimes I am able to see the cursor, and other times not. It did work since I installed xp pro. I had booted it at least a dozen times while doing updates and what not. Any insight would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Reply: (edit)tried safe mode, but still has the same problem, boots to a black screen and stops, it does say safe mode in every corner though. It also has the Windows information across the top of the screen, but still nothing else.

Reply: (edit)Hi, I have exactly the same problem as Tony. Boots tp a black screen with cursor (workin) Same in safe mode - but with white text in corners and windows listing at top. I have reinstalled Windows XP, but this does not cure it! Any ideas appreciated, thanks Sandy
