I just upgraded to Windows XP Pro
from Windows 2000 Pro just this week on my two home computerthe one in my Room
AMD T'Bird 1.33ghz (266FSB)
ASUS A7M266 DDR mobo
256mb Micron PC2100 ram
GF2 Pro 64mb VC
Realtek 8139 10/100 Lan Cardand the one downstairs
Intel Celeron Coppermine 667mhz
ASUS CUSL2-C mobo
256mb SDRam PC133 ram
GF2MX 400 32mb VC
Realtek 8139 10/100 Lan CardUpgraded both to Windows XP Pro fine
the upstairs computer worked great all hardware/software upgraded and worked fine
with the drivers etc...The Downstairs computer upgraded fine
hardware etc but the Realtek Lan Card
wont detect and install the driversI have Windows XP (Certified? Logo) Drivers from the realtek site and it wont accept them and I cant even get the default hardware Driver List Windows normal gives you it leaves it blank with the Message
'(Unable to find any drivers for this device)'and if I try and use the Realtek drivers
'The specfied location does not contain any information about this device'THIS IS DRIVING ME UP THE WALL
cause I cant connect to the net without the lan card so im stuffed
I think it must be a scaby Intel thing
my kick ass AMD didnt have any problems at all!

Click "have disk" and navagate to where you downloaded the drivers to. It should show an .inf file. Select it and then it should find the drivers....

Nope it comes up with that first picture
when I do that
The one with the
'Specfied location etc...'
wont let me??

Well, I had that too. I dont know what happend, but I can see the drivers now, BUT:
They wont install! 'There is a problem with the driver, your hardware wont work'. I downloaded almost ervery driver for it, but all of them give the same result...Can someone give me an advice, except...
~Del Win XP~ :PzAo

Same problem here to. On 2000, i had to mess around for a while to get my realtek 8139b to install, but dont remember how i got it to work, but finally did. works no problem. but xp, i still havent found the loophole in the "hardware wizard", pfftt!!!
On WinMe, at least it says the driver wasnt written for the card, but it still installs.

Well, my quick little update. I guess I knew from the past that the chipset was realtek. got go many cards on different systems. To get past this I got down and dirty and looked for a part number on the card. I found the part number and searched google for it. found that it was a smartlink card. I got the latest drivers from them, but they do not have xp drivers posted. hmmm, still searching...

lol. what "customization" i did to get it to work. When I booted, I noticed the vendor id of 0001. On another system, the other card had 10ec. those match inside the driver. i made a copy of the 3 driver files. i edited the inf file and changed the ven_10ec to ven_0001. After that, it installed without a problem. >: ) so maybe my card is just displaying the wrong vendor id. g/l and h/f
