I have 3 computers at home I'm trying to network thru a hub so I can share files, printers, etc, but only 1 machine is running XP; the other 2 have 98SE on them. The XP machine can see the other computers & access files, but the 98SE machines cant connect to the network. I have tried changing some of the networking settings- IP address but no luck yet. Which protocol should I use & why does my dialup try to connect on the 98 machine?????? I'm confused on this matter.....Can someone help?

When you set up your network you must use your win XP cd. You have to pop it in the win 98 pc and select perform additional tasks than select set up home or small ofice network. Than the computers will communicate and you will be able to share files stc.

I did that on the 98se machine and it said ok but, when I try to see the xp machine it says it is unable to browse the network. Under network it lists alot of options.....dial up, my network card, tcp/ip...should I let 98se automatically pick this machines IP address? Do I need all of these other adapters? I know some of them I need but which ones can I delete?
Only d-link 714 wireless would work for me on XP. 713p won't work.

XP Machine you need to make sure the protocol TCP/IP is enabled and set the IP address to 192.168.0.1 and the subnet mask to 255.255.255.0 make sure file and print sharing is enabled
Set the Win98 PC's to obtain ip automatically reboot all computers and this should work.
I have setup many networks with this system and have not had any probs.
There is no need to use the XP cd on any win98 computer although sometimes it does make the job a little easier
