Windows XP + Pacbell DSL Problem

Comment:

I cannot set up my DSL connection in Windows XP. I have two network cards, and I have tried using both.
The software I used to connect on 98, ME, and 2000 was called "Enternet." I have installed that program
onto my computer which is now running Windows XP and then when I try to set up my account, it says something
to the effect of "Your computer has network adapters connected, but none of them have a TCP/IP stack
assigned." This is where the process comes to a hault since the list of network adapters to choose for
my connection is blank. I have checked the settings in network connections, of both cards, and they
both have TCP/IP installed. I have also tried every possible combination of configurations for the TCP/IP
properties for my cards, doesn't help. My question is, how do I get my Pacbell DSL working on XP? I
know all of the DSL stuff for windows 2k, windows 98, and windows me, so if you tell me a problem solving
solution which applies to them, it won't help because i'm sure i've already tried it. Thanks so much
guys.

Sincerely,

TiM

I use SWBELL DSL service so the situation may not be the same but my experience was that you cannot use Enternet software with XP. If your card is detected, installed and properly configures then use the New Connection Wizard in Network Connections and select broadband connection. Works very well and you do not have to deal with other-vendor software. Good Luck

i hear you can use dialup networking for it (heard pppoe is built-in). I haven't played around w/ it yet but I tech the dsl for pacbell and we have a computer on the lab, so I may play around w/ it one of these days. Good luck.

Enternet is a PPPoE software package (like WinPoet and RASPPPoE). None of them are needed; just use XP's built-in package.

Like the guy above said, open the network connection folder and run the new connection wizard and select the following radio button in each screen: connect to the internet --> setup connection manually --> connect using broadband w/ username and password. Then follow from there.

I use XP w/ Verizon DSL and this method works perfectly.

I have PacBell DSL, and like the posts above say, just use the built-in network connection wizard in XP- works like a charm. I've set up several XP systems and using the wizard to connect to PacBell DSL works the first time.

BTW, don't you just love posts that say things like "Get good dsl"? Really helpful.

I just bought a new pc with XP. I called pacbell dsl and they walked me through the setup. XP has all of the necessary files needed for the dsl connection. They told me NOT to use the enternet 300. So, if you call dsl support, they will walk you thru in just a few seconds.
Good luck,
Peggi

Hmmmm, I was just having the exact same problem with SWBell dsl. I have a usb modem, and the wizzard wasn't working for me. I tried enternet 300, so I'll probably have to reformat and try again now. When all else fails, try try try again....

windows xp has drivers preinstalled.
i would not use there software !
if you do you will need to roll back your system using system restore and let the system detect the hardware.

good luck
