I have installed Outlook 2000 on Windows XP machine and Outlook will NOT maintain my password, even though I check the appropriate box. Anyone see this? Solution?

I'm having the same problem. It saves the password if I enter through my ISP shortcut -- but not if I enter directly through either Outlook or Explorer. It appears to add several characters to the password.

The last comment regarding "adding charachters" is something they built in for added security. In your dial-up info, after you enter your password and click OK, Windows will disguise it to make it harder for hackers to rob you of your identity.

That said, I too cannot get my pop server password to stick in O.Express 6 using XP.

Who will save us?

Our new HP with xp has the same problem, but it gets better. We have 2 profiles set up and outlook express 6.0 will remember passwords in one profile but will not remeber passwords in the other profile. I have tried everything and still oe 6.0 will not remember my e-mail passwords. I've searched the web over and have not found any suggestions that work. What now?

Well, in another post I've found this, that suggests it's a corrupt registry key.

quote:
This is caused by a damaged Registry key. To remove the
broken key in Windows® XP
1) Boot to safe mode and login as Administrator as it is
hidden in normal mode

2) Click Start, click Run, and then type regedt32 in the
Open box.

3) Locate the following registry key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Protected Storage
System Provider

4) Click the plus sign beside Protected Storage System
Provider key and right click the key below (it says
something like “S-1-5-21-1085031214-1202660629-1708537768-1
003”) choose permissions

5) In the Permissions dialog box, click the “ADVANCED” tab.
Take the check out of “Inherit from parent permissions
entries that apply to child objects. Include these
explicitly defined here.” A “SECURITY” box will the then
pop up with 3 choices: COPY, REMOVE or CANCEL. Choose
REMOVE. Now click the ADD button (a “Select User or Group”
box then pops up), click ADVANCED (this will expand the
box)---Click “Find Now”. Highlight “Administrator” in the
box below and click “OK”, click “OK”. Put a check in “Full
Control” (This will select all choices), click “OK”. Click
“APPLY”, click “OK”, and click “OK”.

6) Repeat Step 5 with the Protected Storage System Provider key.

6) Right click on the Protected Storage System Provider key
and choose delete. Click “YES” to confirm the delete
end quote.
