Alrighty, i got a simple question. I have a legit copy of windows XP Pro that i installed on my computer. I believe that I should be able to install it onto another computer as long as it is in the same household...is this correct? Can anyone tell me exactly what i can and can't do with this. I'm referring to using the same serial info aswell, and also registering it?

You can't do it because it is illegal. Period.

Read the EULA, then believe what you want. Unless you're a member of MS' volume licensing programs, you're legally entitled to install XP on 1 machine only.

It has NEVER been legal to install any version of Windows on more than one computer. People have just been doing it illegally for years. With Windows XP Microsoft has found a way to keep the average person from doing it. You can install Windows XP on more than one computer. That is until you try to activate it. It will then just stop working. Even if you do not activate it will stop working after 30 days.

Yes I no know about the volume licensing program. I have even used it. That is another matter.

On a side note, I think the omission of serious copy protection on previous versions of Wndows was a brilliant business decision on Microsoft's part. Copy protection schemes at the time were less reliable and more inconvenient for the end user, but by making Windows 3.1 and 95 easy to pirate MS ensured that people who didn't pay for a copy at least weren't paying for their competitors' offerings. It really helped build a consumer base and point most new application development to the Windows platform.
