hi i recently installed windows xp on my home p.c. everything went along smoothly but then i received a error message stating that, i won't be able to use the internet as no modem has been detected! what do i do?????
i hardly no anything about computers so i would be grateful if some 1 out there could provide full instructions to sort out this problem.

my modem is : 56k ac-link voice modem

First, check in Control Panel/modems to see if there is a modem listed. If not use the 'Add' option to see if Windows can detect your modem. Next, look under the System/Hardware/Device manager tab to see if there is an asterisk against any unknown devices, especially if it says PCI communication device - if it's there you need the driver disk for your modem to re-install the driver. If nothing is found you need to check the modem physically by removing the case & making sure it's fitted firmly in its slot, or even moving it to another slot (If you're not sure about messing around inside the case, don't do it - you can cause permanent damage if you don't know what you're doing)
