at the login prompt, Press CTRL + ALT + Del key combination , The logon box will appear, Now enter the username and password to login.

Once you are in you can check the problem and try to rectify it,.

Which login screen it is ? Classic Login or welcome screen type.If its Classic login screen then you should try few usernames like administrator etc with blank password.

otherwise see if you can get a live CD like Barts PE and check the registry offline.

Still problems then It would be better to do a WIndows Repair using Windows CD.

if you have 2 Windows CD you can do a repair of the existing installtion.

http://pcsupport.about.com/od/opera...

Visit this link, It has detailed info about the repair install. It will not erase any data of your.

In the process of repairing , when you are on below screen
(http://0.tqn.com/d/pcsupport/1/0/H/0/-/-/xpnew10.jpg )
Press Ctrl + F10
It will bring up the command prompt..Now type this command exactly.

net user admin1 /add
net localgroup admin1 /add
net user admin1 abc@123

After executing below 3 commands let the setup finish..
after reboot You should see the users you created, If any issues with the old user you can try the admin1 we just created. the password is abc@123
