Quick update, after doing some more troubleshooting I did a reformat and clean install. Still getting the same freezing issues and long reboot times. As a last resort after checking and rechecking could this actually be a hard drive issue??? Any thoughts or help greatly appreciated.

It is Possible that the harddrive is not running at its normal speed, freezing up or slowing down.
My computer took 20 min. to boot the other day.
Mechanical devices do have there problems.HDD manufacturers have troubleshooting software
for download.

"Quick update"? About what?:-) A reference to any previous post would help:-)
Are you asking yourself the question aloud or are you asking the readers for comments?:-)If you want an honest and helpful input, you need to give some hardware SPECS in addition to CPU and RAM.
With the information you have given i.e; you have reformatted and reinstalled Win XP Pro SP2 for some "freezing" problem that still persists, some general and not specific causes to consider are problems related to other installed software, device drivers , defective RAM, OVERHEATING CPU or Video card problem, or the hard disk itself!
Since it is a custom built PC, providing the Makes & Models of the Motherboard and any Add-on Cards, and the HDD would get the readers in page with you to post some useful answers to you. As an added bonus, others with similar problems might benefit from your own successful troubleshoot if and when this thread is archived.:-)

My system specs:
MSI Neo2 Platinum (latest bios ver 1.B)
A64 3000+ Venice
1024 mb OCZ Gold PC3200
ATI x800 XT PE (Omega Driver based on cat 5.9)
2 Western Digital 120gb HDD
CoolMax 550w PSThis is a fresh install of Windows Xp Pro SP2.
I posted thread# 142540. I had just upgraded my system and windows would load extremely slow. And when it finally loaded I would get random freeze-ups or lock-ups. I have ran Spybot and deleted all spyware, run avast anti-virus and found no problems there. I have gone into MSCONFIG and only have avast and ati tool selected to load under selective start up. Since then I have reformatted and reinstalled XP and I still get the same problems. Any help is greatly appreciated.

brick71,
Thank you for the URL to the original post:
WIndows XP Pro Randomly FreezingMy best guess based on the information given, is that most likely it might be related to incompatible RAM.
If you are particular that you should use OCZ 512 MB RAM module, on this K8N Neo2 Platinum Motherboard, for the best results, please select a pair from the following recommended modules using OCZ Ultimate Memory Configurator You may try Crucial RAM if you like, but again, I suggest using their Memory Configurator to select the RAM.
512MB Module n/a OCZ DDR PC-3200 Value Series OCZ400512V3
512MB Module n/a OCZ DDR PC-2100 Value Series 2.5V CL=2 OCZ266512V
512MB Module n/a OCZ DDR PC-2100 Value Series 2.5V CL=2.5 OCZ266512V
512MB Module n/a OCZ DDR PC-2700 Value Series OCZ333512VOCZ website says the following : [Quote]
OCZ EL DDR PC-3200 Dual Channel Gold VX is not recommended for use on legacy Nforce 2 platforms[/Unquote]M

Thanks for the link. I was wondering if it is a RAM issue. Right now I have the 3200 Gold 1GB dual channel kit (not the gold VX). According to the link from the MSI site to the OCZ site Platinum Rev.2 3200
or Gold 4000 Rev.2 are compatible. I might just try on of those. Thanks again.
