Windows XP & iTunes 8 problems

I installed iTunes 8 on my computer and installation appeared to go smoothly, but whenever I try to run the program, it gives me this:


Windows system components that iTunes requires are missing or corrupted.
iTunes might be unable to launch or communicate with iPod or iPhone. For help repairing your operating system, click More Information.

It gives me two options,
[More Information] [Continue]

If I click either, I get the error message from windows:

iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

How can I fix this??
