windows xp installer - broke

New installs won't run. Get error dialog: "Windows Installer Service could not be accessed...". The MS site offers 2.0 for everything except XP. Is there a work around other than reinstalling WIN XP! Help!!!

Try putting your xp disk in the cdrom go to start /run type in cmd at the prompt type exactly sfc /scannow that will fix the files that are corrupted. Also do you have sp1 installed and all updates?
