OK its me again thanx for your help people your help was precious, and i wish u all merry christmas! Anyway this time i tried tom install windows XP Professional but 3-4 files during the "copying files" process were not copied on the hard drive.
Now i tried to reinstall them but it happens all the time.
I tried everything cleaning the CD etc.
Could the problem be my hard drive or my DVD ROM (HITACHI 7500) cant read from the CD.
PLEASE if anyone knows post a reply.
Thanx a lot!

When you installed XP pro edition, did you just do an upgrade from a previous OS, or did you do an F-disk and reformat the hard drive to do a clean install to the hared drive? Doing an upgrade often has flaws in it (files may not get copied, transfer errors, ECT). I would reccomend doing a clean install of XP, doing it this way will help you make sure you do not have as many errors.

And during the setup when like a file was not copied correctly it prompted me to push ENTER to retry copying it again....for some files it worked for some it didn't.....
Anyway thanx.
Any other ideas?????

I had the same problems but I noticed it was only after I had XP on then took it off and put on ME because of software incompatability. Now going back to XP it won't install. Same files won't copy, comdlg.dll, usrdtea.dll, tsbvcap.sys, then blue screen atapi.sys, driver_irql_not_less_or_equal, and kernel32.dll. These changed a little bit with each install attempt but most were still there. Shadow bios disabled, caching disabled, and it took 11 hours to load, did so with no errors but at the end I got a blue screen desktop. No icons, no picture, no startup, no taskbar and ctl+alt+del gave the taskmanager which I could start programs through. Strange but I'm off to Win98......

I have a major problem with winxp home edition, upgrade. When I go to install it, it goes through the setup process and restarts the system, and then goes through the setup process again and restarts the system, and then goes through the setup process again, and restarts the system....over and over and over. This would go on forever if I didn't stop it.
I have a thunderbird 1000 processor
64 mb kyro video card (also tried with geforce)
via chipset on the mainboard
I even returned my original copy to the store I purchased it at and still get the same thing. I am back to windows 98 for now. Spent money on an os I can't even use. I can't seem to get an answer as to why this is happening. I called Microsoft and they were no help, explaining that they had never heard of that and didn't know what to do.
If anyone might no the cause of this please, please email me

Thanks

I've got the exact same problem as Steven (response #5), my Windows XP installation freezes when it is installing the network. I'm using a new hard disk for a clean installation.

My hardware:
AMD Athlon 800 Mhz
256 SDRAM
motherboard: DFI AK74 AC/EC/SC/TC/EN
chipset: VIA VT8363 KT133
Network card: CNET CN200 Pro Fast Ethernet Adapter

Sticking with W98 for the moment!

Any help will be very appreciated.
