Ive tried to install windows xp on my new system and it seems to be freezing everytime i get to the "welcome to setup" screen (the blue one). I have also tried upgrading from windows ME, but after the installation is complete, the mouse and keyboard freeze up. If anyone knows what to do, please let me know. My system is as follows:

- Asus A7V8X-X mobo
- Athlon XP 2600+
- 512M DDR333 Ram
- Sapphire Radeon 9000 Pro 64M

THANKS

Is your keyboard and mouse usb?

If so make sure it is enabled in your bios.

I have the same problem with the Windows XP setup, with the following hardware:
Asus A7V8X-X mobo
512 PC2100
Asus GF4 ti-4200 (8x)
I get to the "Welcome to setup" with windows XP home, SP1.

Config:
Asus A7V8X-X
Athlon 2500+
256 DDR333

I have the exact same problem. It seams that both the keyboard and mouse stop working after driver "X" is loaded. Try this: while installation is booting, press "Num Lock" on and on. The "Num Lock" led will stop flashing just before the "welcome to setup" screen.

I tried to install XP on another machine. Everything worked fine. I took the hardrive and install it into my Asus A7V8x-x machine (though this is not recommended). It booted well but neither the keyboard nor the mouse were working at the at the logon screen.

Kept freezing on the "welcome to setup" i some how got passed that and installed windows XP HOME, but after installing some drivers, every time i typed, the box would freeze. I replaced the keyboard, and every thing works great, infact im typing from my box with the Asus A7V8x-x board now. After replacing the keyboard (was an $8 one i got from london drugs) i can even get to the windows XP home setup sceen great too (I tried with the old keyboard, and it froze, new keyboard, and it works)

krscomp is right! All I needed to do was to change the keyboard! This is just crazy because my faulty keyboard is working fine under non-NT based systems. The only visible difference between my two PS2 keyboards is that the working one is a Win95 keyboard.

I wonder if this problem occurs on every mobo...

I've had the same problem with an Asus A7V8X-X ; Athlon XP2700+ and 1024Mb 333Mhz DDR. I've tried three different keyboards ; two different mouses; three different video cards ; taking out 1 stick of the ram and two different XP Home cd's. Nothing helps.

I encountered the same problem when I used 2 sticks of PC3200 256MB RAM or one stick of 512MB RAM. Try using one stick of 256MB RAM and see if the problem goes away as it did in my set up.
Asus A7V8X-X
2 256MB Twinmos PC3200 RAM
GEF5200FX
Maxtor 40GB 7200 HD
Win XP Home SP1

Lets see..I have an Athlon 1.2 GHz AMD
processor with 504 m of ram..had an odd
count of ram on the original stick and I
added a 256mb stick of pc133(i believe)

When Im installing Windows XP
Professional Edition, it always stops
while "Installing Devices", with 37
minutes remaining.

Anyone know how to get it past there?

if so email me at
anguis2174@hotmail.com
